Quoting Yigal Levin <leviny1 AT mail.biu.ac.il>:
Read again. In verse 11, God threw big stones from the sky, which chased the
Canaanites from Beth-horon to Azekah. "Stones" ("avanim"), not "hailstones"
("barad"). This is a totally supernatural phenomenon, with no storm. THEN,
in verse 12, Joshua speaks to God in front of the Israelites, asking that
the sun and moon stand still. There's no direct connection between the two.

I write:
Yigal, look again at verse 11, closer to the end. : )
