This is true to our minds. The question is whether to the ancient Israelite the terms "xayyim" and "mavvet" applied to flora. There are other terms for plants drying up, such as "nabal".

The only quote that I could find about a plant dying is Job 14:8 about a
tree's stock dying and maybe Psalm 78:47 about vines and a tree being killed
(using a different verb in this quote). If a garden is alive, then maybe it
can die. People usually say that plants and trees live and die, so maybe
gardens do too.
