Dear Chris,

X-b-l has a third meaning, i.e. to "destroy" (e.g. SNG 2:15). In my
opinion the cases you are citing are related to that. Here the idea of
"destruction" is used in a more figurative, non-physical sense. Hence
the idea of corruption.
