BDB lists Megiddo(n) under the root GDD "penetrate, cut", which is also listed as the root of GAD = "fortune", or "coriander". BDB also mentions that GAD was the Phoenician god of fortune. So perhaps this pre-Israelite city was considered fortunate in its location, or dedicated to the god of fortune.
