The proponents of Modern Hebrew have successfully revivified to a large
extent the lexicon and morphologoy of Biblical Hebrew, but the syntax of MH
is very much the same as Rabbinic (Mishnaic) Hebrew, which uses the Hebrew
verb forms as tenses in the Indo-European sense (past, present future). But
certainly Biblical Hebrew did not use these verbs to indicate tenses but
aspects (perfective, imperfective).

On the fact that, since I first began to learn Hebrew both as a Biblical and
spoken language (since kindergarten), which I am now fluent in, and which
includes many adult years living in Israel, NOWHERE was "Ehyeh" ever used in
anything but future tense.
