I am in the minority, but wear my ASTM helmet as often as allowed and am at home with our diverse group. We are required, however, to dress in the group uniform for parades and public service work which is a designated shirt with badge, dark blue jeans or pants, cowboy hat, embroidered saddle pad and breastcollar + headstall.
Me too. However since there are about 5 of us that now wear helmets we were successful in getting a motion passed that allows us to wear our helmets in public appearances IF: 1- more than one of us helmet-wearers is participating so it's balanced, and 2- we have off white covers on them so we match the uniform cowboy hat.
Our county has already required that all ground pounders carry helmets to call-outs and it's the CPs discretion whether they are required to wear them in the field. (depends on terrain) I think it's only a matter of time until mounted are required to follow suit.
