Jan,

The clinic that has been talked about is put on to teach fire, police, and
other first responders how to deal with emergencies when horses are involved.
Many first responders do not know anything about horses or their behavior.
Teaching them what to do/not do when horses are involved will make a bad
situation safer for both horses and people.

I just joined this list, to learn more about search and rescue on horseback.
There seems to be some discussion about a clinic - what clinic is this?

Thanks,
Jan

There are many unit trainers and other certified instructors who can offer
awareness, operational or technician level rescue training and search
management on this list. If possible the moderator may be able to indicate
on the unit listing or another list who has such capability in house/unit.

I authored the 16 hour add on to vehicle rescue for horse trailer
extrication for Pennsylvania. There is also a 2 hour awareness class for
trailer owners on operator safety and regulations, and we can do a handling
class if anyone has stock to offer. The emphasis is on controlling the
situation, not becoming a casualty, and not necessarily becoming a horse
leading expert. We have the NJ horse emergency tape, the US Rider awareness
tape for Large Animal Rescue, and trailer safety materials. Six of our
members have completed the TLAER 3 day seminar. One is a state certified
fire service instructor (vehicle rescue, MSO, Incident Safety Officer,
organizational management).

I am certain that an instructors' skill exchange can be constructed.
