I have vents in my helmet and I can vouch for the fact that branches do
NOT enter. <G> I have tried on numerous occasions to scratch an itch
without removing it. No can do. I always have to take it off. I guess,
as with everything, you need to carefully check out each product for its
usefulness for a specific purpose. I would not buy a helmet with wide
vents directly on top of my head. However side vents would be more
acceptable. The vents on my helmet are not wide and so they sit deep
into the helmet. It is a long ways from the helmet skin to my head!

I wear the Troxel Dakota. If you are considering buying a helmet I would
suggest going to a tack store that has many types, if at all possible.
They are all made slightly differently. Some fit round heads better
while others do the duty for oblong shapes. The size of your crown and
forehead will affect fit. I attended a helmet fitting clinic and it was
the best! They explained the various types and helped with fit. Makes my
helmet very comfortable because it DOES fit me! <G>
