Several times in the past I've posted to explain that not all state Farm Bureau's have insurance companies. In some cases, over the years, several state Farm Bureau's have combined their insurance companies and are multi-state insurance companies. We are very fortunate in Michigan that our Farm Bureau Insurance company is the leading provider of farm owners insurance. It is a Michigan only company, which means it can offer insurance only in Michigan. Because our diverse fruit and vegetable industry, as well as livestock, has a long history of direct marketing, Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan is very familiar with the needs of farmers.

Where ever insurance is purchased, it is critical to read the policy as well as ask questions of the agent. Too many times policy holders assume certain coverage's and limitations, then are mad at the insurance company after claims are made. It goes without saying that not all policies are comparable. Companies develop products based on many factors and the state they do business in has some say in the offerings as well. Be sure of any exclusions or limitations from the get go and save headaches later on if you should have a claim.

SW Michigan where lake effect snow bands are staying to the west of us this time. Greenhouses and high tunnels still producing tomatoes, salad greens and more, I'm happy to say. No green peppers, though.

Hmmm…maybe time for us to check into Bill's company.  We had quite a time finding somebody who offered farm liability coverage several years back when we were looking.  Not Farm Bureau (despite the name), probably not RVOS (nobody would ever return our repeated attempts to contact them, despite their nice farm-friendly-looking advertisements on the back cover of Texas Co-op Power Magazine).  Finally ended up working with Texas Insurance in El Campo, TX.  They are agents for The Republic Group.  They've been very easy to work with, coverage is good, they have several payment plans if you don't want to pay all at once.

Our policy covers $1M limit in liability per occurrence, $2M in aggregate for the year, with a separate $2M aggregate product liability policy.  Annual premium is just over $1,000.  If interested, talk to Betty Brown 979-543-2709 x224 .  She's very good.

Zones 7&8, where it finally froze about 2 weeks past normal freeze date, so hopefully we can slow down a bit.  Green bell peppers, anybody?

Any suggestions on where to shop for a $1 million dollar umbrella farm policy in Texas?  We're trying to sell to an upscale client but they are requiring $1 million liability policy.  The quotes I've gotten so far are all over the place and would prefer to go to someone that caters to the farm and ranch community.  Thanks,
