I have a Cassio that I got from a local business machine guy which runs on 120 or "D" cells. It will go all summer on a farm stand on a load of 8 batteries. Major point in its favor is accurate weight and correct price computation. PITA would be that it "goes to sleep" if not in use and customers need to be trained not to load the platter till I hit the on button and they hear the beep that indicates it is awake and ready for work. I have had it 15 years and it is still in occasional use at my brewery/winery.

At the metal dump yesterday there was a scale with the power cord/transformer and as is my habbit I tossed it in my truck and brought it home to see what was what, well, it is a Hobart Ameri 3, 30 lb digital with more buttons than I can figure a use for, has a State of Maine seal for 2009, and works like a charm. One of the pins on the platter is missing but we can replace that. My rule is that I can bring home anything from "the dump" but if I dont find a use for it within 2 months I have to take it back; bet this guy gets to stay here!
