Actually I know almost exactly.

In an old Toyota half-ton longbed with the shelf in [width of truck and
about 2-ft short of the tailgate to accommodate taller plants], I could
squeeze 12 flats on the shelf, and 16 flats on the bottom with space to tuck
in another 20+ gallons in between the flats to pack it tight. Flats are the
11x22 size that fit 8 square gallons, 18-3.5" squares, or 12 6-packs.

So carrying capacity was 240+ if all gallons, or 28 flats of 18-3.5", 500+
with room for others to get tucked in the extra spaces.

When I get creative at the height of the season I can somehow squeeze enough
plant material of all sizes to fill a 10x10 market booth way beyond its
capacity and spill into the aisle on all sides. Luckily our market has
plenty of room for vendors to spread out.

Used a half-ton PU with canopy for years. Putting a shelf in helped double
the amount of flats I could get to fit. Moving to a 1-ton this year, can't
imagine what I'll do with all the room. Probably haul more plants that I'll
haul back home. Never expect to sell even close to everything you bring. A
good day is when the truck goes home half empty. But you have to give folks
a bunch to pick through or they don't feel like they have a choice. Sigh.

Could you give us an estimate of how many plants you take in your truck?
