The F in RTFM is much like the F in FVWM. It means what you want it to
mean. I usually have translated it Read the Furnished Manual. I have
also heard people say Read The Fine Manual.
That said, it was probably unnecessary to invoke the RTFM as it was not
necessarily obvious where to go.
In general, though, hardware in Linux will be addressed by the name of
the chipset involved when it is not specific to a specific device. For
instance, my network card is based on the Realtech chipset and my video
is ATI.
