LD_PRELOAD? Copy /lib/* to /tmp/lib and set LD_PRELOAD to /tmp/lib. Then run
your make install and an ldconfig? Dunno, might not work - particularly not
if "make install" uses any setuid progs.
The other one that looks good is LD_BIND_NOW which will force the loader to
resolve all symbols at startup instead of waiting till their referenced. That
might allow you to replace ld-2.3.1.so by hand and run an ldconfig.
