It would be fine to have this feature in SMGL.

I wanted three versions of spell: stable, devel and cvs in one directory.
Of course I did not want it to was obligatory. Only optional.

Now I would prefer versioning, something like linux spell. User can choose
which version he/she wants to cast.
Of course it is useless for majority of spells, but some spells really need
it.
It could be fine to have this feature in sorcery.

Another approach is to have special cvs grimoire published on
codex.sourcemage.org.
Users could choose stable or cvs version by scribbler, I designed it for
these reasons.
I use my own e-cvs grimoire http://bugs.sourcemage.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3977
and by scribbler I choose prefered version.
