I'm curious what are you rebuilding when you do a sorcery rebuild. I mean, do
you recompile the spells from the install CD, or the packages from another
build ?
It would be a lot easier if you backup your spell configuration (maybe even
the cache packages) from a SMGL install that you have polished & tuned to
your taste. In that way a reinstall (even on other machines) will be
effortless and sorcery rebuild will fail very rarely (if it does at all).
If you like to do a lot of installs, you can make a tarball of your system (a
stripped version, of course, so it won't be too big) and put it in the
official iso. Now you have an install CD/DVD with your system out of the box.
It's pointless to use the official tarball to install SMGL and do rebuilding,
install more spells and configure the whole thing every time (unless you aim
to test the install process thoroughly).
Debian released live systems with Lenny (at last), which are pure Debian so
you can create a live cd/usb which is exact copy of you system and have an
installer too. I find it extremely useful, effort and time saving.
You can do that with SMGL, but it's a bit harder.
