There is more.

flag is equal to fixed in lesser branch+
295 bugs found. (correct)

flag is not equal to fixed in lesser branch+
116 bugs found.

total: some 1950 bugs.
----------------------------------------------------------
Where are the missing 1500 bugs? It should obviously match so that the two
queries add up to the total.

What I think is wrong is that bugzilla understands "flag is not equal to
fixed
in lesser branch+" as find all the bugs that have any flag set, but not set
to "fixed in lesser branch+". A random sample confirmed it here.

So all the older bugs that have no flags set, do not match as not
having "fixed in lesser branch+" set. This is an annoying problem, since now
we cannot (at least from my and p3pilot's experience) filter already fixed
bugs from the rest.

Any ideas? I suggest setting "fixed in lesser branch-" in all the not "fixed
in lesser branch+" bugs directly in the db if we can't find a way through
bugzilla. It wouldn't change anything semantically, but the search would
probably work as it should afterwards.
