Hi all !
At last, I got gnome-volume-manager 1.5.3 working ! :)
I will so make the needed changes, especially in udev. So before doing
that, I want to be sure that everybody agrees.
All block devices will belong to disk group, cdrom to cdrom group.
Haldaemon user will belong to these groups. We already have these
groups, but afaik we don't use them by default. Sandalle suggested to do
that in a separated rules file, i.e. 70-hal.rules, but I don't see the
interest of not doing that by default. I don't find any reason to not
use disk and cdroms groups for the peripherals, but if you have one,
please let me know, that's why I opened this thread. ;-)
I will make udev the default hotplug multiplexer by
modifiying /etc/init.d/runlevels/%DEV/devices. That would not mean
however that hotplug scripts are no more launched thanks to the use
of /sbin/udev_run_hotplugd.
However on HAL mailing list [0], someone recommend me to no longer use
udev_run_hotplugd and do all with explicit rules. However he didn't
answer me why, but maybe we should later think about that.
I will add the possibility to use pmount with gvm. We could consider in
the same time to not allow everybody to pmount devices, only members of
a specific group, i.e. plugdev as Debian.
I also had a chance to test hotplug-ng, it seems to work as well as
hotplug, I think we should also consider to create a HOTPLUG provider so
that udev could be casted with hotplug-ng.
A camera group must be added to authorize regular users to access
digital camera with libgphoto2, I will thus add it in libgphoto2 spell.
At last, a sorcery bug still prevents gvm to be casted with pmount
support (see [1] for details). However, Karsten found a solution, but it
might break some spells. But know that far from here, I didn't have any
problem with the use of eval "configure..."
All comments are welcome. :-)
