Hello,

I did some browsing around but couldn't find any conversation on this
particular
topic.

It seems to me that, though the Source Mage system is designed around the
sysadmin's needs, it would be quite useful to regular users as well. As a
normal
user, I can install (to my home directory) all sorts of things which are in
the
grimoire and might be useful for me to do so, but I wouldn't be able to take
advantage of the existing package management system. This seems like an
unecessary limitation.

I would like to suggest that the system be altered so that regular users can
make use of it. Maybe some reporting tools could then be made available to
sysadmins so that they know what is being installed by whom.

It would also be nice to see a system where spells could be bundled with a
package so that they aren't dependant upon the central grimoire authority. I'm
thinking more along commercial lines on this one.

All that would be needed then are some user-friendly X apps to have a very
powerful, easy-to-use package manager that could easily rival the MS
Installer.

Just a thought.

Josh
