In the December 2002 issue of New Architect, soon to be released to www.newarchitectmag.com, in review of IBM DB2 8.1 for Linux (Beta) the reviewer says "Although [IBM Control Center] runs on an IBM Java runtime that hogs memory and sometimes hangs, ...". I guess everyone has to pick her own poison ;-). personally, I haven't seen IBM's VM in production anywhere, although NYC loves Java and IBM :-). Jikes compiler -- everywhere, but not VM.

Last I checked, IBM's JVM will not work in Mozilla either. I will try
again, but I don't think there has been a new release since July.

I'll contact IBM to see if they'll let us circumvent the registration, not
likely I'd assume, but worth a try.

Will IBM's stuff let java work again in mozilla?
You could ask the use where the source is localy and move it to
/var/spool/sorcery in the PREPARE script.

Back on topic, IBM's jdk/jre require registration, so it may be a little
tricky to create a spell. I'm not too thrilled about having to download it
and place it in /var/spool/sorcery directly. I'll have to give it some
thought. Anyone have any ideas?

Some other things that would be nice: jre only spells and coexisting java
environments (for easy testing of java applications using a variety of
jvms).
