Hi Frogpondphrags,
Your Masdevallia Measuresiana is an old old hybrid between Masdevallia amabilis and tovarensis. Registered by Sanders in 1890. In those days parents were recorded alphabetically which was not necessarily the way the cross was made. This was not corrected and recorded with the pod/female parent first as we have today till the1961-70 volume of Sanders.
Masd tovarensis is a white species and for some reason dominates any crosses even with coloured mates. If you check Masd. Measuresiana on Google Images you will see all the "washed out" clones which is typical of tovarensis hybrids.
Mr Measures of course was quite an orchid grower of his day and no doubt a good customer of Sanders so Sanders named this primary cross after him.
