Just knowing that John Mackey is one of the authors is enough for me to

Thanks for the well-informed heads-up, Scott.

Whole Foods is the worst form of greenwash since it uses the good impulses
of people to separate them from their dollars but does not provide the
goods. His whole covering up of his marketing GMO food in his stores is a
prime example of this. I would venture that at least half of his sales
items could be found considerable cheaper at the local big box grocery
store.

I did not know about the GMO stuff there.

I am a very careful shopper and do rely on WF for a lot of my groceries and I am usually well rewarded, price OK too. I use a coop franchise, WF, Trader Joes and Food Lion to fill my grocery needs. I rate WF and TJ about equal with WF having the edge on quality on many items but more $$$ too. Thing is you just can't get much what you need from any of the box stores, so WF and TJ. Another great option is mail order. I use a lot of traditional Japanese macrobiotic foods and order from Natural Import Company in Asheville NC. Best miso, vinegars, natto, tamari I have ever eaten. Very high quality goods at affordable prices.

I still like my usual communalism, grass roots rant with a plug for
real food coops:

I personally think that socialism, communalism (the real communism) and cooperatives have their place and represent real solutions to real issues; especially as applied to any grassroots agro-perma-enviro movement that affects people's lives, well being and
livelihoods.
