First of all, I guess nobody knows what Jesus really said and what the church officials in charge tampered in the writings of the New Testament. To me, as somebody to whom love means the most precious part of life, to whom love gives meaning, significance and sense to life, this command always sounded kind of peculiar, as love is rather an emotion over which one has little authority. I wondered how can I love my enemies. - And so, one of the most crucial questions arises: What can we do to affect and initiate love. -

The poem-prayer I heard read (on local TV) Christmas Eve was about love,
for everyone, even your enemies and how to gain the strength and insight
to enable you to do this. It was awe inspring, a literary masterpiece
and if I can say so, a technical marvel. This brief paragraph is what I sent
a friend over the holdays:

"I was just watching the Christmas Eve service at Duke Chapel, especially
nice this year.
A black gentleman on the Duke staff who is a poet and who has written hymns
for the
Chapel Hymnal read one his poems, a prayer, during the TV presentation. I was
astounded and deeply moved
at the beauty, scope and completeness of it. It is a literary work to go down in
history."

I've never really heard anything like it. Liturgically speaking it was a
marvel. If I can get a copy,
with permission I will share it with the list.
