Can I ask you to put www.scytheconnection.com onto the list of suppliers of
Scythes please.
I have been corresponding with Peter Vido, and am impressed by the passion
for the use of this tool, helpfulness of the site and the time he and his
family have given me with the questions I have. And that is from Australia
as well, where there are no suppliers - and they are helping us get a
shipment to get us started here.
The role of hand tools in permaculture has not been well explored, and I
hope we can put some more emphasis on this given peak oil and other
considerations so we tread lightly on our wonderful planet.

Hello Dieter:
I have a similar problem with dry soil and increasingly more frequest
periods of drought. Adding organic matter to my soil, making tall raised
beds
with the rows between filled with compost and mulch will go a long way
toward conserving moisture and making it possible to grow crops.
If you don't want to plow then hand dig your beds. Can you build ponds or
other water catchments
to contain rainfall during the wet months for use during the summer by
pumping them out onto the gardens?
Bellota tools in the Basque region in Spain and another, similar (forged
hand tools) tool company in Portugal
make excellent gardening hand tools, perfect for your gardening tasks.
