P.S. The handmill which I got at Realgoods still has a valuable function.
I use it to crack grains for cooked cereal and when I want a bit of texture
in the bread I put some of the cracked grains into the bread as well.

Thank you Claudia, and lbsaltzman. That is important to know - - that
t takes so long just to
et enough flour for one loaf of bread! We haven't tried any mills at
ll yet, so I didn't have
frame of reference.
Thank you both for the info.

ones that run on bicyle power or an electric one. I personally use
the Grain Master Whisper Mill. It is extremely fast for a $200 mill.

The Bread Book by Tom Leonard (East West Health Books 17 Station
treet, Brookline Massachusettes 02146) rates grain mills - electric
nd hand cranked - quite thoroughly.

We are looking for recommendations on hand-crank type appliances.
Specifically in this moment, grain mills. Its easy to find a
variety of
these appliances on websites, but in terms of getting a sense of good
quality we haven't stumbled on that info yet. We'd found Lehmans, but
another friend of mine thought we could find better quality elsewhere
(but made no suggestions). We are just trying to do our homework
before
purchasing.
Does anyone have any suggestions of manual grain mills they would
recommend? This would be for smaller quantities for home, not to do
any
commercial with the product.
Thank you for any recommendations :-)
