I have baked bread for many years. I tried a small hand cranked mill and was
ultimately frustrated at how long it took to make enough flour for even one
loaf of bread.  I suspect you would need one of the large ones that run on
bicyle power or an electric one.  I personally use the Grain Master Whisper
Mill. It is extremely fast for a $200 mill.

The Bread Book by Tom Leonard (East West Health Books 17 Station
treet, Brookline Massachusettes 02146) rates grain mills - electric
nd hand cranked - quite thoroughly.

We are looking for recommendations on hand-crank type appliances.
Specifically in this moment, grain mills. Its easy to find a
variety of
these appliances on websites, but in terms of getting a sense of good
quality we haven't stumbled on that info yet. We'd found Lehmans, but
another friend of mine thought we could find better quality elsewhere
(but made no suggestions). We are just trying to do our homework
before
purchasing.

Does anyone have any suggestions of manual grain mills they would
recommend? This would be for smaller quantities for home, not to do
any
commercial with the product.

Thank you for any recommendations :-)
