Michael,
You're wondering why there is a dark side of the Force (Luke) if somebody is
out there in charge.
>From a certain perspective (yours) it looks like there is nobody in charge,
and hence chaos must be the explanation. And if there is somebody in
charge, then why the hell would she let the dark side persist? Good
questions and no simple answers, except to say that she stays out of it and
lets us work out our own shit.
One thing to add is the idea about She being referred to all the time as He.
Part of that is sexist, patriarchal and extremely damaging to the sacred
feminine. Another way to look at it though is as polarity, like 2 sides of
the same coin, or 2 sides of a tree, or the Yang and the Yin. One side is
the masculine expression of Creation, the Yang if you will, and the other is
the feminine, the Ying. To a large extent the organizing side would be
considered Yang and hence masculine. One doesn't have to take it any
further than that and get all wrapped around the axle about it. It doesn't
make sense to call the Yang the Yin and vice versa.
As for strict rules: touch a hot stove, or stick your head under a falling
rock and see if there aren't rules.

>Thanks for the comments, katey. I think this is a perfectly fine venue for
statements of personal philosophy. Why should there even be a permaculture--
unless it is in line with our own personal philosophies. It is a locus from
which we can identify one another and see our own ideas in the context of
similar( but not identical) ideas.

Regarding the idea of monotheism, I think it is apparent to all who actually
look at the universe that it is one, in the sense of all being
interconnected.
But the notion that it's all under the direction of one organizer strikes
me, frankly, as being a bit ludicrous. Isn't it apparent to all that the
world is a product of warring factions, in the context of a chaotic grid
without rules? There are broken pieces lying around everywhere. A deity with
the least sense of tidiness would have done a much neater job of things.

I never could figure that out. But obviously there exists a body of strongly
rule-bound people who will fight you over the question of a single Deity
(and which of the many in current use it actually is). It is always referred
to as a "He". And being an authority figure, "He" has strict rules that must
be obeyed.

Obviously this philosophy doesn't relate to toilet training. In that event,
the deity would be referred to as "She".

Thanks for helping to start the ball rolling.

Michael
