For Zone 6-7, what are recommendations for plantings at or near the edge of a
small pond?
This area would be subject to flooding as well as drought so the plants would need to be resistant to these conditions somewhat (some losses expected) and be able to recover from either to become established.

I have drainage slopes that lead to the ponds, some steep, some almost vertical and some very gradual, with severe washing during heavy rain. Fescue will probably work to create an erosion-free zone. This must lead into other plantings near the water that will provide good habitat for aquatic and semi-aquatic organisms. I have cattails which are good to have at water's edge. I have started water lilly and papyrus but do not know what to expect from them in the water or near the shore. I would like to crenelate the pond's edge and install a variety of plantings that are native to my locale and will work well in an edge zone with nondescript plant material that may drift in and out, airborne, waterborne or waterborne. The water in the pond is high in nutrients and duckweed growing there now is flourishing even in this cole weather we are having.
