Pellet stoves require electricity to run the pellet delivery system and blower however.
The pellets are a manufactured 'side product' of the 'wood products' industry so are subject to the ups and downs of that biz. So far they're a surplus being put to use instead of 'wasted'.

In making a solution out of the problem - there's no need for the pellet delivery system to use electricity.
A spring powered system (e.g. hand wound, like the FreePlay radios etc.) is completely possible, for example, and I reckon it could be designed to not need very frequent winding... :-)
Or a gravity powered system, like cuckoo clocks and similar.

It's still a lot more moving parts and fabrication than a regular wood stove or masonry/mass heater though.

I wonder what the comparative efficiencies are...
