woops. It may have been obvious, but I meant, put the vinegar into some water
and let it sit a day or two before using on plants.

I haven't tried this so can't validate it, but vinegar softens water. I use
the plain white vinegar in the rinse cycle of my laundry. I've also used it
to keep mineral build-up off my plumbing fixtures in an area with very hard
water.
If I were going to try this I'd put the vinegar in and let it sit for a day
or two. Perhaps even in the sun.
Let us know how it works if you decide to try it.

Subject: [permaculture] natural water softening
Hi everyone,
I have indoor plants that are sensitive to the hard water of my area.
All water softening methods I've looked at involve either machinery or the
addition of salts. Under ideal circumstances I would just collect
rainwater,
but this is prohibited by my current living situation. Are there any
natural
and environmentally friendly ways of softening water?
much thanks
David Travis
