Sewlyn,
Have the asbestos shingles removed carefully, without breaking them. Bag them
and take them to a hazardous waste location for disposal. Do not compost
them. The problem with inhaling asbestos fibers is that stick in the lining
of the
lung and do not get absorbed. The site can be a constant irritation and as
with many such interior locations in your body, can cause cell damage and
then
cancer. Asbestos was a wonderful product. That is why is lasted so long on
the
farm house. Another idea is to cover it and not have it removed. Check to see
if a permitting procedure (if any) will require removal by an expert.
