Regarding the burning of wood as fuel, it seems to
me that investigating and getting the most
efficient wood stove/heating system possible would
be useful for you, and then developing your own
woodlot to ensure a sustainable supply of fuel.
Even better would be designing and building a house that is easy to heat and
cool,
and is rotproof, fireproof, wind/hurricane proof, insect-proof, waterproof,
relatively simple and fairly inexpensive to construct, extremely durable and
longlasting.
Invest the money, time and energy upfront and enjoy the benefits for a
lifetime.
What is it?
1) concrete monolitiic slab-on-grade
2) concrete floor [over Hebel insulation)
2) concrete block interior and exterior walls
3) Hebel or other foamed/autoclaved concrete block floor and wall insulation
4) welded steel roof trusses
5) steel stud roof purlins
6) steel roofing
7) fiberglass batt roof cavity insulation
I am building one of these alongside a food producing greenhouse built the
same way
and will be glad to answer any questions about this method and the materials
involved.
It works, is not too expensive, is nice to live in and can easily be retrofit with wood floors and walls (over the concrete r concrete block). Imagine, 29" walls, great for window seats and planters.
