greetings, I visit the backwoodshome site
regularly. I even read the guns articles but do not own any firearms. I am
interested in survival, i.e, the lost in the woods survival not the hunker in
the bunker kind. Especially as I send time in the "bush" working on habitat
restoration. I came to Permaculture through a search for a solution
to poverty and hunger. I was and still am a community activist involved in the
local peace coalition and social justice committees as well as other community
groups.

My guess is that almost everyone coming into the country finds that some of their neighbors are gun toting beer guzzling yee haws, some are earth loving gentle folk and others fall somewhere in between on the grand spectrum. Part of life is learning how to live with everybody who isn't just like us. For me, wisdom lies in the art of declining an invitation to go out into the woods to smoke dope and shoot guns with the neighbors-- and declining with enough tact that you aren't considered some weirdo foreigner. I'd be interested in finding out our personal orientations too. On earlier topics we've found quite a diversity of opinion on all sorts of subjects. But the site I recommended has a good bit of practical country-living knowledge as well as a decided gun-culture inclination.
I've seen a lot worse. Your library filter must be tuned pretty fine in picking out 'weapons' talk, like the sex filters that disallow a breast cancer site because it contains the word 'breast'. These folks at backwoodshome.com like their guns all right, and would give you a hard time if you came over to get 'em from them, but they don't advocate the armed overthrow of our government and seem pretty innocuous compared to the militia movements and the racist apocalyptics. By the way Mr Ashcroft, if you're reading this, I don't advocate the overthrow of the government either. You're a good government. I've always admired you. Please don't put me in jail. Mike Elvin
