Sigh of relief. Thank you, Richard A. COMMENTS IN CAPS:

I suspect that almost all the info that needs to be in
this initial spec exists in the archives to this mailing list.
But someone needs to cut-and-paste until their fingers bleed
sorting and organising the info.
I'M READY AND WILLING.

One example is the thread that discussed all the attributes a
plant could have and which were useful to this project...
GREAT. CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE MORE EXAMPLES? OR, WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO MAKE A
ROUGH OUTLINE OF THE SPEC, AND THEN WE CAN ALL ADD TO IT?

And I think that everyone involved in the project needs to work on
this document. It can't just be delegated to one person... for a
couple of reasons:
1. It's far too much work for one person
2. Everyone can offer valuable input
AGREED. WHAT METHODOLOGY DO YOU PROPOSE? (SOMEONE MAKES AN OUTLINE -->
EVERYONE FILLS IT IN?)

Which is why I was proposing a wiki, although a bunch of small
text files in a CVS repository would do just as well.
WHAT DO OTHERS SAY? AND WHO'S WILLING TO TAKE THE LEAD?

I'M WILLING TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES, I JUST NEED SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS.

THANKS,
*s
