Thanks for this information, Richard M. Should I/you email him, and invite
him to join the PIW list?

And thanks for the progress update, Chad - I look forward to wonderful things!
And congratulations on the 76(?) acres ;)

Hi Folks,
Here the latest email from the Thomas A. Naegele. It seems that we
have
a nice historical outlook with some of the earliest plant data on computers.

Rich,

Above are the meanings for the labels.

I did this work in the mid to late 70s and
then updated the work in the early 1990s.

Have not touched it since.

There have been two version of the book

Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Great lakes
with this data as the main part, then I had written
programs to make tables and such for easy finding
of specifics.

Many people have since put information into the
computer, that is botanical information for
easy access and searchability.

To my knowledge, I was the first having put my original
data set into a Univac 1110 in 1975, and with full
working data base in 1977. And completion in 1979.

At the time I wrote to many to try to do a project as
such, but I never received any feedback of any sort.

I suspect that you have seen much data on plants,
would be interested in your comments now that you know
that I did this back in the 1970s.

Thanks,

TAN

p.s. Can I take this opportunity to encourage to you to join our
friends of Plants For A Future membership scheme. Membership is only
£10 a year (£15 overseas) and we are trying to recruit 1000 friends
in the coming year. If we can reach this target then we will be
able to secure the land for our demonstration gardens and visitors
centre in Devon which could become a shining example of woodland
gardening, sustainability, and the use of perennial plants.
See http://www.comp.leeds.ac.uk/pfaf/friends.html for details.
