Hi folks,

I'm in Northern Virginia, in the nearabouts of Washington DC, zone 6b/7a.
Aside from this year, Summers are awfully hot and sticky. What do people
recommend as far as heat and humidity tolerant gooseberries and currants?
Afternoon shade, I'm sure, is a must, but what specific varieties/species
might do well?

http://pubs.ext.vt.edu/426/426-840/426-840.html#6 has some good info and
variety suggestions. I've had better luck with Invicta and Jeanne in my
location as well as the "Ben" and Titania black currants (white pine
blister rust resistant.)

I expect you will see currants and gooseberries defoliate in the hot
summers in your area. I'm in zone 6 in SE Ohio and if we have a real hot
and humid summer it can stress the plants. I've lost a few of each that
way.
