For Gooseberries that may have a chance in hot, humid climates, Lucile Whitman at Whitman Farms (http://whitmanfarms.com) recommended to me Invicta, Orus 8, and Black Velvet. I have also heard that Glendale might be good. She has many of these for sale bareroot for good prices: http://whitmanfarms.com/category/all/edible-plants/gooseberries.
