In retail catalogs, everything has "excellent flavor" but info straight from
the breeders tends to be more honest. They often brag that their new
varieties have excellent durability for transcontinental shipping, for
example, and don't bother to mention flavor. When they make a point of flavor
and say it's good for gardeners, but apologize that it lacks durability, I
take note.

Noticing that the plentiful flowers on my strawberries all opened with black
centers instead of the usual yellow, and wondering if that means what I think
it means.

Yeah, the gold blush one looks especially tasty. I wonder how they actually
taste. It seems like every new berry variety has 'excellent flavor'. They
sure look good. I've had bad and very good yellow raspberries before.

A comment about flavor. My experience has been the people t Nourse are very
upfront about berry taste. Just call and ask them . I have had them tell me
their favorites etc for home growing.
Another nursery for tree fruit that seems very honest bout taste is
Cumberland Nurseries out of McMinnville TN.
In terms of raspberries I am a fall bearing bigot, but I still grow the
summer bearer Taylor because of its excellent taste. Hilton is another
exceptional variety.
