A few comemnts...

1) in season supermarket strawberries tend not to be bad tasting.
2) Strawberries are very regional in how they develop their flavor.
3) If you ever saw what goes on at many commercial operations and realized
how strawberries absorb chemicals through their skin you might suddenly
appreciate your home grown berry more. There are some fruits that make more
sense to grow than others in terms of pesticide residues.

Some that need no sprays in my area:

1) Raspberries
2) Black berries
3) Strawberries
4) Most pears (Harvest Queen needs a dormant oil spray and Potomac need at
least on spray for p.curculio)
5) Blue Berries (if you can get them to grow)
6) Sour Cherries (90%) of the time - you can spray once for p.c. for good
measure then you will be fine)
7) Gooseberries
8) Currents
9) Often peaches
10) Grapes

Low spray:

Peaches (one or two PC sprays and you are fine...)
Some Pears: Potomac and Harvest Queen as noted above

Need sprays:

Apples
Sweet Cherries
Plums

My point is there are many reasons for growing your own fruit. Taste is one
reason, reducing the amount of pesticides may be another.

fluffy (in the hell hole known as Aurora IL)
