I've not done a lot of bench grafting so I can't speak directly from
experience.

But if they were mine I'd break the buds on the rootstock off for now.
There seems to be in some species a rejection mechanism similar to the human
body rejecting a foreign organ transplant. It will favor it's own material
over
the scion. Force (encourage) that understock to accept the scion, so to
speak. If the scion doesn't callous to the RS more buds will come out. Those
can then be used to graft to next year.
