Pineapple pear, cook with them green, eat them when they get pale yellow green. Prepare for a large, extremely ugly tree. They grow branches straight up for 6-9 ft, then in a few years each branch blooms and bows over, becoming permanently bowed with the weight, and new vertical branches arise. The nice big productive tree I am familiar with has a certain grace that it has acquired with age, but they sure dont' start out that way. Much nicer than Kieffer, but they come in at a hot time of year so they are harder to store. The skin is thin and tender, that's a plus for eating and cooking. I don't peel them to dry them. Fortunately they seem to ripen over a fairly long span. Even though they come in here in August, I have been able to pick them for a month. Donna
