I dug out my biggest one I have this spring.  Had it for 10 years and it only occasionally flowered.  The male I have of the same age has never flowered.

However, I have the variety Issai that flowers and produces fruit every year.  It is self fertile, but some years drops all the fruit before it matures.  It is far less vigorous than the other ones I have.

> Am now getting the first batch of hardy kiwis from some a. arguta  vines I planted almost 20 years ago & finally found a male (Meader) to  pollinate it.  They are twice the size of the a. kolomikta fruits &  have very strong hints of pineapple.  Skins are tougher & more present  than the kolomikta as well.  Virtually impossible to tell if they are  ripe by sight, have to squeeze each one.  These unpruned fines are  grown up a few ash trees & I see some fruit up to 30 - 40 feet up.
