Ed's experience is more relevant to your area, Doreen, but in case any
Southern growers are reading this, 333 with may a 15 foot tree by year 3 here
and 513 will reach 15 feet by year 4. Long growing season. Lots of growth.
Unfortunately with the heat and humidity; lots of disease too. In the
subtropics, the way I keep pear growth under control is neglect until
fruiting, then ruthless summer pruning and festooning.
