Any Roundup you get onto the trunk of the young tree will make it sick and possibly kill it. Roundup is translocated throughout the tree. After the tree is old and the bark is corky then it doesn't hurt anything. That is why I quit using it around my young trees. You can use a shield between the spray and the tree but then the shield gets wet and if it touches the tree then that is trouble too.

Can someone shed light/experience on the issue of using Roundup (Glyphosate) under young (2nd leaf) trees. I'm starting a trellised orchard, and weed control has become labor intensive. I'd like to use glyphosate under the trees to keep the weeds back. I understand the issues of overspray onto the tree leaves, but what is the risk of contact with the trunk?
