I've noticed that the trees I covered with a mix of neem oil and Surround did a much better job of coating and keeping its coat than that of Surround by itself. It may not have been the property of the neem oil, but other ingredients the neem was mixed with. I haven't compared it to Surround mixed with other oils.

Here is a related Surround question: All the precautions I've read indicate that Surround is safe for bees, but I don't see anywhere whether or not it acts as a bee repellent. It makes a difference in spraying when some trees are still in full bloom and others have reached various stages of petal fall.

Alan, neem is a non-drying oil and it can cause the Surround to not flake of as well on the bugs so it may reduce its effectiveness. There have been University studies which showed cottonseed oil, another non-drying oil, reduces the effectiveness of Surround. So, I would not recommend using the two together. I use drying oils such as mineral oil with Surround and it still seems to do its thing since the oil does not stay on long.

Richard, Surround is kaolin clay ground to very fine particle size; it irritates the bugs and keeps them busy cleaning themselves off instead of laying eggs in your fruit.
