I had that happen to an apple a few years ago. I planted a dormant tree in
May and nothing happened when everything else was fully leafed out. My
mother-in-law told me to keep pouring the water on it (rain is a sore topic
up here the last few years) and wouldn't you know it: the stupid thing leafed
out in July! I thought it had died for sure! The tree is doing fine and
hasn't had a delayed emergence like that in the 4-5 years since.
