I know of butternuts (the ones that are surviving the canker) that live on regularly spring flooded riverbanks here. Ostrich ferns are also very popular, beautiful, and delicious, and survive and thrive in lots of soil types including wet areas. Also, I second the recommendation of elderberry and know of one spot with elderberry, highbush cranberry, black raspberry, and wild hops all growing together on the side of a riverbank. Sam Thayer's book "The Forager's Harvest" is a great resource for wild edibles (many of which can handle flooding). A lot of the plants he mentions are available in selected varieties from nurseries.
