Performance is similar here, Doug.
Hands-down, the A.laevis is a heavier producer - it's a more mature
specimen, but even given that parameter, I think as years go by, it'll
probably continue to produce more. And, as you indicated, the smaller
A.laevis berries are more flavorful - certainly not 'dry', but not as big
and juicy as the grandiflora fruits.
The A.x grandiflora plants just started bearing in the past two years, so I
don't know how productive they're going to be - but my wife was very pleased
with the couple of quarts of fruit I brought home; enough so that she told
me, 'We need some of THOSE here at the house.' So...I'm gonna try to start
some and plant 'em around her tennis court.

Lucky, my observation of Amelanchier X grandiflora (I think) seedlings
at a conservation planting near here was that the berries were big and
juicy (solids content apparently lower than A. laevis) but not as
strongly flavoured as A. laevis, and the production was rather sparse.
How do yours produce?
