Alas, Lon's plumcot is just one more example of
fruit in general. One group of varieties are kept going in spite of
mediocre fruit quality because the trees are so wonderfully productive.
(Eg, Kieffer pear, Rome apple) The other group are kept going despite the
serious flaws of the trees because the fruit are so wonderful. (Eg Cox's Orange
Pippin, Comice) That's life. Donna
