The local species in western Oregon are Amelanchier alnifolia, A. florida, and A. canadensis. The difference is that they are local races/biotypes adapted to this area, and have been selected for resistance to the local diseases. If you do some exploring you should be able to find local Amelanchier that is adapted to your locale.

Lon,  You say your local juneberries are rust resistant.  Ours are not.  We have just a few plants here and there, and the few times I've seen fruit they have been mostly ruined by rust.  Lucky sent me starts of 'Timm x Success' which look completely different and show no rust.  Do you have any idea which species you have there?  We mostly have the canadensis.    Donna_______________________________________________
