I don't know whether this is always the case, but the Luscious I have
eaten here in the Twin Cities have all been fairly large fruits. You
may have tasted another cultivar. -- Sam Brungardt, St. Paul, Minn.

Thanks for pointing me toward Luscious. Descriptions I'm reading make
it sound like a mystery pear someone shared with me last fall. It was
small, jucy and absolutely delicious. It looks like it might work for me
if the bloom time is about the same as pyrus ussuriensis, which I think
it might be. Does anyone know if the bloom times overlap? Kathryn

Kathryn, the information you have seems pretty accurate. However, to my
taste at least, Luscious is a much nicer `Ussurian Pear' (meaning it has
at least some ussuriensis in its background). If you want to go with
Ure, look for `Early Gold' which is a sport of Ure (or so I have been
told) the fruit of which in my experience is earlier, larger and better.
